The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, a yearly, multi-day event organized by Brooklyn Bodega, has announced that Q-Tip will be the final day’s headline performer, capping off several planned days of hip hop activities, shows and events starting Monday, July 11 and culminating on Saturday, July 16.
The 7th annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival continues its growing tradition of delivering a variety of hip hop-related shows and events over the course of several days. Events such as the “Styles Upon Styles” event (7/12) and “Salute the DJ” (7/14) delve into sometimes overlooked aspects of hip hop culture, while mainstay events such as the “Show and Prove Superbowl” (7/11) and the Main Stage performances (7/16) often bring out an array of outstanding upcoming and veteran talent.
Panel discussions are also a part of the yearly event, with this year no exception. “Beyond The Mic,” a part of the “Bodega Education Initiative” will take place on Wednesday, July 13, featuring a day of discussions and seminars taking a more scholarly and academic look at issues concerning the hip hop community.
At Brooklyn Bodega’s BHF “kick-off party,” Executive Director Wes Jackson announced a new addition to the festival schedule, with the Bodega Recognition Awards scheduled for Friday, July 15, serving as a platform for Brooklyn Bodega to recognize positive contributions to hip hop.
As always, the main event is the final day of the festival, with an all-day “Family Day” planned for Saturday, July 16. This block party styled event will feature performances and plenty of family-friendly activities. Saturday will also host the main stage performances, an all-day showcase of some of the brightest musical talent around.
The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival was named one of Birthplace Magazine’s “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck.”
This year, Q-Tip will function as part headliner, part curator, working with Bodega staff to help create programming for the main event. As such, the performance is being billed as Q-Tip and Friends, leaving the door wide open for a vast array of exciting performance possibilities.
Birthplace Magazine plans to work with Brooklyn Bodega both before, during and after the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival to bring unique and exclusive content to our audience on their behalf, so stay tuned to us, and them, for more information, announcements and details regarding this year’s Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival.
