Mobb Deep’s Prodigy has released an autobiography, My Infamous Life: The Autobiography of Mobb Deep’s Prodigy, and will be conducting several talks and signings during the next few weeks, including “A Conversation With Prodigy, moderated by Toure, host of the Hip Hop Shop on Fuse,” on Wednesday, April 20 at the powerHouse Arena at 37 Main Street, in Brooklyn.
The book, written by Prodigy along with Laura Checkoway, details Prodigy’s life, from somewhat of a privileged upbringing, in part due to a successful and wealthy family, particularly his grandmother, Bernice Johnson, owner of a well-known New York City dance school bearing her name. Despite Prodigy’s brushes with early fame and the performing arts, Prodigy was attracted to the allure of the streets, and it was this journey, alongside the emergence of hip hop into his life, that would lead him to rap stardom, with all its own trials and tribulations.
Prodigy, a National Advocate for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, writes about his lifelong struggle with the sickle cell disease, and he has currently partnered with the SCDAA on their “No Pain” campaign to raise sickle cell awareness.
The book, in stores now, comes on the heels of Prodigy’s release from prison after a 3 1/2 year stint for weapons charges. He has since reunited with fellow Mobb Deep member Havoc, and is working on new Mobb Deep material. The day of the release of his book, Prodigy also released The Ellsworth Bumpy Johnson EP, a 7 track project, released exclusively through Complex.
Below are the dates, times and places for Prodigy’s book tour.
