10 Must See Videos By New York Area Hip Hop Artists [April 2011]

Cam’ron, Vado – Hey Muma

We suppose this is pretty much the exact opposite vibe of the dead prez joint earlier, but hey, we just deliver the goods, let the people do the judging. To be fair, “Hey Muma” is a deliciously infectious club-friendly drinking-smoking-dancing-skanky-women-all-around joint, and there’s nothing wrong with getting lost in that type of guilty pleasure e’ry now and then. Cam’ron’s return, Vado’s introduction, and Dipset’s longevity are really a decent testament to one of NY’s more storied hip hop crews, and “Hey Muma” helps continue that legacy. Directed by Antwan “Shake” Smith.

Sneakas – I’m An American

Here’s an interesting joint off of Sneakas‘ free Hebonics 101 mixtape, hosted by Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg (one of our “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck” for April, 2011). The mixtape features folks like Iron Solomon, ILL Bill and M.C. Serch (of 3rd Bass fame) whose Serchlite Multimedia is behind the project. The video is directed by Ian Meltzer.

Tony Yayo ft. Mobb Deep – Body Bag

Now that Prodigy’s out of the slammer, Mobb Deep music is in the works, and while the video may be a little low-budget, it pretty much fits the gritty, smokey sound made (in)famous by the duo in their heyday.
