YC The Cynic: Fall FWD Mixtape + 3/1 Release Party + ‘More and More’ ft. Soul Khan, Von Pea, Sene (Prod. by J57)

When we named YC The Cynic one of our inaugural “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck,” and reviewed his debut mixtape You’re Welcome, we knew we’d be wanting to hear more and more from the young Bronx wordsmith. Something of an old soul with a mix of throwback and forward thinking lyricism, YC The Cynic has shown through follow-up material such as “Fall FWD” that whether simply spitting or delivering a message, YC is making a name for himself for delivering fluent wordplay over beats from some of the NYC scene’s progressive producers.

The current culmination of these efforts is Fall FWD, YC’s latest mixtape, dropping March 1, 2011. Leaks like “Fall FWD“, “Mr. Brown,” “Suicide,” featuring fellow “5 Reasons” alumni Homeboy Sandman and Niles, and “More and More,” featuring Soul Khan, Von Pea of Tanya Morgan and Sene, should be enough to demonstrate that the praise we had for YC The Cynic was well placed, as aside from smart, slick spit game, YC The Cynic has always chosen beats well, and from we’ve heard, this continues with Fall FWD.

We’ll come back with a more thorough review of the project (which we are currently bumping. Repeatedly.) Hosted by Soul Khan with a DJ set from 2DopeBoyz‘ Meka, and performances by Sene, Rebel Diaz, Scienze, The Underdogz and undoubtedly many several supportive guest MCs, the event will likely leave you wanting more and more from YC The Cynic.
