Talib Kweli has become one of hip hop’s premier MCs, crafting a solid solo career since his Black Star days alongside the Mighty Mos Def, earning the respect of both street-minded and conscious hip hop heads throughout the world. Talib Kweli has continued that successful streak with the critically acclaimed Revolutions Per Minute, with DJ Hi Tek.
Talib Kweli’s recent release, Gutter Rainbows, also spawned several slamming selections, including the gloriously gritty “Uh Oh,” with Jean Grae (previously named one of Birthplace Magazine’s “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck”), and an apocalyptic-themed video for “Cold Rain.”
Austin, Texas will get a chance to check out Brooklyn’s Talib Kweli as he hits the stage during the annual South By Southwest Music Festival (SXSW) on two occasions. First, after reveling in the SXSW vibes all day and night on Wednesday, March 16, Emo’s Main Room will host Talib Kweli and Jean Grae (one of our “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck.“) at about 1 a.m. On Thursday night, March 17, again at about 1 a.m., you can catch Talib Kweli at Scoot Inn, closing out the Audible Treats showcase also with Jean Grae. (NYC’s Kyle Rapps will also be performing at the Audible Treats showcase, though much earlier in the night, scheduled for 7:40 p.m.).
