Well, the NY Daily News beat us to the punch. We’ve wanted to feature the folks at the Rebel Diaz Arts Collective for some time, but glad to see these folks get the mainstream shine they deserve.
The Bronx-based hip hop community center has been running arts workshops, film screenings and panel discussions, through self-funding and grant awards, for some time. Rebel Diaz, the two-man hip hop group consisting of Arts Collective founders Rodrigo and Gonzalo Venegas (RodStarz and G1, respectively). Teresita Ayala (known as Lah Tere), recently resigned from the group, citing health and wellness concerns.
Rebel Diaz recently performed at Southpaw for YC The Cynic’s mixtape release party (YC was quoted in the story as well), showcasing their passion for hip hop with social commentary and a political message, and will also be at this year’s SxSW music festival later this month.
