J. Period, John Legend and The Roots present Wake Up! Radio mixtapeHip hop icon Rakim joins The Roots and John Legend for “In The Ghetto (Wake Up!), the first offering from the J.Period project Wake Up Radio!, a remixtape modeled after The Roots and John Legend’s excellent collaborative album Wake Up!.

Featuring talented performers such as Q-Tip, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Nneka, K’NAAN, Dead Prez, Blu and more, the free mixtape pays “tribute to the legacy of soul music that paved the way for WAKE UP! and imagines a world where mainstream radio transmits music with a message.”

Indeed, Wake Up! Radio builds on an already impressive musical gem, and serves as a great sonic liaison between great artists from different eras, all while demonstrating that certain social problems and the musical messages which address them, are timeless.
