There are a lot of projects coming due from within the independent New York City hip hop scene in the next few months, and Top $ Raz and YC The Cynic are two MCs at the top of our “highly-anticipated” list. The two artists join forces on “The Plague,” giving us, and others eagerly awaiting their respective releases, a little taste of what’s to come.
“The Plague,” a solemn, gritty, slow-burning narrative, produced by Brown Bag AllStar J57, will appear on Top $ Raz’ album The New Flesh, available February 22. From the sound of tracks like this one, and others we’ve dug heavy, like “Golden” and “The Man,” caught during his live performance at the Bars Mitzvah show at Southpaw, it should be pretty clear why we’re eager to hear the completed project.
As for YC The Cynic, the young Bronx wordsmith, already named one of our inaugural “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck,” his new project, the Fall FWD mixtape, is out March 1, and after our acclaim for his first project, You’re Welcome, we are looking forward to his new material.
Top $ Raz will be celebrating the release of The New Flesh at Southpaw, on February 23. Check our New York-area hip hop events calendar.
