The Brown Bag AllStars guys sure are popping up all over, particularly The Audible Doctor, whose stock rose a bit late last year after linking with Brooklyn beast Joell Ortiz for “Battle Cry,” a fierce lyrical onslaught over the forceful AD-laced musical foundation. Normally, I like to make sure our posting love is spread around a bit, not congregating around certain crews too much (we just posted the J57-produced “The Plague” by Top $ Raz and YC The Cynic), but I couldn’t let Silent Knight suffer because BBAS has been doing the damn thing. His “Stayin’ Busy” is simply not something I could pass over.
“Stayin’ Busy” is one part narrative, one part lament, one part inspirational joint from the New Jersey MC, who is also a part of A Band Called FUSE. Silent Knight deftly jumps in and out of the expertly crafted rhythmic tapestry of the Feist-inspired production, describing, and in a way glamorizing, the grind it takes to make one’s mark in today’s independent music scene. While many speak of the proverbial grind, Silent Knight manages to convincingly convey that insatiable drive which grips those afflicted with the all-in-one blessing and curse of creative ambition.
It’s all something I can personally attest to, and imagine countless other artists, entrepreneurs and go-getters-who-haven’t-quite-“gotten” yet, can too.
“Stayin’ Busy” is the first offering from Silent Knight’s upcoming solo release, Busy Is My Best Friend. We won’t be too busy to cop it when it drops.
