Joell Ortiz has been delivering a steady onslaught of noteworthy material both before and after we annointed him one of our inaugural “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck,” including one-off freestyles, on-air verbal assaults, a solid Farewell Summer EP and the long-awaited release of his album Free Agent.
We witnessed a short but powerful set in his home borough, opening his Yaowa! Mixtape Tour at Southpaw on September 30, 2010, and took note of his ongoing work with Slaughterhouse, who are now working with Eminem and Shady Records.
A pretty good run.
We’ve also been watching Brown Bag AllStar producer Audible Doctor, who has already laced Joell Ortiz with the fiery track for “Battle Cry,” as well as blessing other area artists with well-produced music, such as the recent Silent Knight drop, “Stayin’ Busy,” and production on fellow BBASer, Koncept’s Playing Life EP.
Here, Audible Doctor and Joell Ortiz link up for the bonus cut on the iTunes deluxe version of Free Agent, with “Incredible,” featuring legendary reggae crooner Barrington Levy, as Joell rhymes about two of his more personal inspirations.
