DJ Kay Slay assembles another Voltron-like likeup for the Shaft-influenced “Let The Dogs Loose,” the first track from his latest mixtape The Soul Controller, which just dropped.
Though not as powerful as “60 Second Assassins,” from his previous studio album, Rhyme or Die, “Let The Dogs Loose” keeps it simple but rugged, with a Theme From Shaft sample providing the musical foundation. Papoose slightly edges the others displaying the lyrical dexterity that briefly reminds us why his buzz was so heavy in the streets a couple years back.
The Soul Controller features a plethora of New York veterans and mainstays, including Busta, Raekwon, Styles P, Sheek Louch, 50 Cent, Maino and Lord Tariq, as well as several upstarts such as Vado, Fred The Godson and Reek The Villian.
With mixtapes such as Long Live The King and now The Soul Controller, DJ Kay Slay continues to do his part to keep New York hip hop percolating heavy in these cold streets.
