President Barack Obama parodies usually fall into the “funnny idea, bad execution” category, but comedian/impersonator Reggie Brown’s combination President Obama/Biggie Smalls “Extra Juicy” video does a good job at channeling both our Commander in Chief and the late Notorious B.I.G. at the same time.
The clever remake, “dedicated to all those Republicans that said I’d never amount to nothin’,” shows an in-character Brown rapping on an apartment stoop, in the recording booth and walking about, in a fairly decent Biggie Smalls voice, reworking Smalls’ lyrics with a humorous and political twist, with lines like “You Remember John McCain? Ha Ha Ha Ha, You’d never this man would make it this far.”
The fact that Biggie, er, Obama, um, Brown can actually keep to a beat helps keep his parody on track, so to speak, as other presidential raps lack in actual rhyme execution, while singer Janeen Brown helps with the hook.
All in all, it’s worth a watch, as a good amount of effort was put in to making the video appear authentic, (peep the Secret Service posted up outside the booth), and while a couple of years into his presidency, the “hood Obama” jokes are a bit old, “Extra Juicy” still manages to remind us that “The Bush days were the worst days, Now we’re trying to push forward in the worst way.”
And if you don’t know, now you know.
