Syllables – Eminem, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Stat Quo, Ca$his

Rumors of an Eminem/50 Cent/Jay-Z/Dr. Dre collaboration “Syllables” floated around the internet for the past couple of days, and with the addition of Ca$his and Stat Quo, it has arrived.

The anti-dumbing-down-of-hip-hop-themed joint has a minimalistic and plucky beat, assumedly produced by the good Dr., mostly lamenting the lack of lyrical prowess in the rap game. This time, Jay-Z doesn’t get outdone by Slim Shady, a la “Renegade,” and in fact, everyone’s verse was fairly up to par.

The interesting thing, according to Shake over at 2DopeBoyz is that the track is actually a couple of years old, so no idea if this joint is simply an unreleased heater, or a leak from, or to hype, the long-awaited Dr. Dre helmed Detox. In any event, it’s a listenable joint, though not quite as powerful as the idea of this combination of MCs sounds on paper.
