We would have preferred they provided at least some token coverage of the opening acts at Soulja Boy’s Webster Hall release event, particularly because one of them was FinaL OutlaW, an October, 2010 entry in our 5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck series, but The Village Voice is a certainly a fine publication nonetheless, and usually represents hometown hip hop in a good way.
In a concerted effort to help properly aggregate when New York hip hoppers make it into mainstream journalism (or in this case, Rhode Island hip hoppers with heavy NY connections), we noted in last week’s print edition of The Village Voice, a quick piece on AraabMuzik, the producer linked to the Dipset collective. (Most recently, AraabMuzik crafted “Salute,” the Dipset “reunion track”). While technically he’s not from our area, AraabMuzik’s musical affiliations with Camron and the Dipset crew serves as something of a work-visa level of residency, so we thought we’d include him in our jurisdiction.
In any event, we particularly liked the article because it gave us the type of introductory info we needed to better familiarize ourselves with the up-and-coming producer, who we’ve known about, but haven’t known about.
A quick profile and a quick history lesson regarding AraabMuzik’s ascention into the hip hop production world, as well as a nod to his extreme skills on the MPC sampling drum machine (as evidenced in the clip below), the Brandon Soderberg article paints a concise picture.
