We previously brought you the hauntingly smooth “Golden,” from Top $ Raz’s upcoming project The New Flesh, sprinkling our coverage with words like “hypnotically,” “heartfelt” and “introspective”. While that K.O. Beatz production surely remains the best advertisement we’ve heard so far for Top $ Raz, the video for “No Tears,” a track from Top $ Raz’s 2009 album Spilled Milk, does nothing to hurt the MCs reputation, helping demonstrate his adept capacity for spinning thoughtful rap tales over well-matched beats.
Filmed on the streets and boardwalk of Far Rockaway Queens, the video features cameos from other New York City-area underground artists, as well as family and friends, and is occasionally peppered with behind-the-scenes footage of the video actually being made, perhaps all working to suggest that even when achieving success as a recording artist, Top $ Raz’s harsh past may never be far (enough) behind.
The video was directed by Lee Walker, with Hemamset Angaza directing photography and handling the editing.
The New Flesh is due at the end of November. “No Tears” can be downloaded for free. Top $ Raz on the web: http://topdollagotit.com/
