Veteran hip hop producer Pete Rock stopped by AllHipHop Radio / GOOM Radio with Will 2 B, and spoke on his recent work, including the track for the Kanye West and Jay-Z collaboration “The Joy,” the use of which Pete Rock recently told Billboard came as a bit of a shock to him. The Chocolate Boy Wonder ran down an impressive roster of current artists he’s working with, including Talib Kweli, Red Cafe, John Legend and The Roots.
When asked how he “stays relevant” Pete Rock tells Will 2 B, “Just being myself, doing what I always been doing, listening to certain things on the radio that intrigue me. Not everything intrigues me… Only certain things… Ride around listening to jazz and soul music…”
No magic formula, but considering his recent output, and his illustrious production history, that’s probably really all he needs. After the interview (which appears to have been shortened in the accompanying video), Pete Rock jumps on the turntables, showing off his DJ persona.
