Kanye West, Saturday Night Live (SNL) Video – Power & Runaway (With Pusha T)

Kanye West hit the stages of Saturday Night Live (SNL) for the fourth time last night (10/2/10), as Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston hosted the long-running sketch comedy program. Kanye West, fresh off of another weekly G.O.O.D. Friday music release and working on Watch The Throne, a joint album with hip hop titan Jay-Z, brought out his bevy of angelic ballerinas to engage in well choreographed performances of  “Power” during the first set, and “Runaway” with Pusha T, during the second. West was decked out in all red everything, gold chains dangling and swinging, against an all-white room background, creating a starkly contrasting visual. Pretty fancy stuff for SNL. Kanye did remove his SNL diss and threw down a new verse in “Power”.

Say what you will, this man is artistic, and he brought to the musical performance segment of SNL a certain stylistic flair that I can’t remember seeing from anyone else anytime in the recent past. We see plenty of snarky Twitter comments from the e-peanut gallery, but with Kanye, that’s not new. We thought it was very cool.

From an impromptu walk through the streets during fashion week, and a “monsterous” performance alongside Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj at the Eminem/Jay-Z concert at Yankee Stadium, New York City has certainly seen a lot of the Chicago transplant lately. While he has his smh-worthy moments, I think for the most part, we don’t mind him traipsing around the birthplace of hip hop.
