Joell Ortiz, who should already be considered the blue collar, working man’s hip hop hero, helps fulfill that image with “Night Train,” another extremely solid duet with crooner Novel. These two combined in the past on several joints, particularly on the (in our opinion) underrated and under appreciated “Call Me,” and “Night Train” continue to demonstrate how well their styles compliment each other.
Joell Ortiz, one of our inaugural batch of “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck,” has been on a performance and music-dropping blitz for several months, most notably the release of his Farewell Summer EP, with the fiery “Battle Cry” contained therein, and embarking on a multiple-city tour in support of the impending Yaowa! mixtape and Free Agent album.
BirthplaceMag.com was at the inaugural show of the Joell Ortiz’ Yaowa Mixtape Tour, starting it off at Southpaw in his home borough of Brooklyn, on September 30. Check out our recap, photos and videos of the event.
There should be a video of “Night Train” soon, as it was supposedly being filmed back in March. Stay Tuned.
