Hip Hop at CMJ Music Marathon: Duck Down vs. Blacksmith Showcase [10/19/10 – 10:00pm]

The first night of the 2010 CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival has a New York hip hop treat in store for those on hand at le poisson rouge, Tuesday, Oct. 19, as Duck Down Records (one of our “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck” and celebrators of 20 years in the business of hip hop) and Blacksmith Records face off in a hip hop showcase showdown. Doors open for this 18+ event at 10pm and will be hosted by Hot 97 morning show jock, and underground hip hop supporter, Peter Rosenberg, with the legendary DJ Evil Dee on the ones and twos.

Expected to appear are a slew of hip hop heavyweights, many from the NY area, including Pharoahe Monch, Smif N Wessun, Jean Grae (another of our “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck“), Buckshot, Sean Price, Heltah Skeltah, Skyzoo and !llmind, Torae, Promise, Ruste Juxx and Strong Arm Steady. We suspect a few “surprise guests” as well, based on the strength of the two factions, and have seen confirmation that newly-signed-to-Duck-Down Black Rob will be on the bill as well.

Sponsors for this event include 2KSports, Rocksmith, XXL, Brooklyn Bodega and Vtech.
