What a lineup! The 2010 CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival kicks off today, filling NYC with even more wonderous live music than is here on a regular basis. There are what seems like a million venues and 10 million artists performing over the next few days (visit www.CMJ.com for schedules and details), and we’re particularly interested in the hip hop events taking place in the city that birthed the genre.
Among them, kicking off the marathon, is the Homebase x Put Me On It showcase tonight, 10/19/20, at Southpaw in Brooklyn. This is a fantastic lineup of buzzworthy underground artists who will be hitting the stage starting at 8 p.m., including, but likely not limited to, Homeboy Sandman (one of our “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck“), Blu, Outasight, The Kickdrums, The Clubhouse, Kooley High, Tiron, Hezekiah, P.SO, Brown Bag AllStars, Versis, Oliverdaysoul, Treklife, Tranquil, Scienze, I Am Many, King Mez and DTMD.
Heavy.
Music by DJ Dusty Lungs and hosted by DJ Getlive! Southpaw is located at 125 5th Ave., Brooklyn and admission is $15 in advance (if there is still time for that), and $20 at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m., showtime starts at 8 p.m.
The CMJ Music Marathon is all about choices, and while tonight there is another formidbile showcase option (Duck Down vs. Blacksmith, le possion rouge, 10 p.m.), it’s obvious you will get ridiculous bang for your hip hop buck at the Homebase x PMOI showcase as well, and very likely discover an artist or two you weren’t previously familiar with, and that’s what this sort of festival is really about.
