Mala Reignz – “Dum Da Dum (OMG)” Video + Premiere Party Recap

Mala Reignz, (who we featured earlier this year in “Mala Reignz: A (Picture) Perfect Storm“), debuted the new music video to accompany her doo wop inspired rap single “Dum Da Dum (OMG)” and Birthplace Magazine was there with a receptive crowd at the video premiere party at Belmont Lounge back on September 13.

The video, directed by James “Latin” Clark, evokes the innocent, feel good and technology-free times of the 1950s. Mala Reignz could not stop smiling as she expressed delightment at how her vision came to life and her contentment with the final result. With Clark, she found an experienced and talented director with a solid team.

“It was so magical how everything worked out. We had an idea and the director was able to put the vision together. Everything fell right into place. That’s why I feel good about the record. This video is something that you normally don’t see from an independent artist. This will really separate us from everyone else.”

Mala couldn’t have done it without Jazmin at VintageVandalism.com who supplied Mala and the cast of the video with the authentic feel and style that Mala was looking for. Jazmin’s invaluable expertise in retro 50’s era clothing paid off and with the addition of some vintage cars from other sources, and the beautiful cast, the video truly came alive.

Mala, who’s always thinking about what’s next, is ready for this video to go to the next level.

“I want it to get it on every network, every video music playing network that there is. Its hard if you’re not signed… We have some relationships and we are going to work those as best we can. It’s a gamble. If we could at least blow it up on the internet, which I know we could do, that’s gonna make a really big dent. The response to the song has been great and the song makes people feel good which is why we hope that it catches on and everyone wants to see it on TV.”

Nicky “Jaamz” Ramos, Mala’s right-hand-woman and manager is not surprised that the industrious 4’11” MC from The Bronx is making strides in her music career.

“Holding a person’s career in your hands is serious. She’s a very hard worker. She works 365, 7 days a week. Her life is music. She sacrifices a lot. She deserves it. She’s really good at what she does and I’m not saying that just because she’s my artist. She has it all. She has the full package and she’s a great entertainer.”

The video, which was officially released to the public September 17, is below. Be sure to check for Mala’s 12-year old son in the video, playing a stickball playing youth.

Swing by Mala Reignz Video Viewing Party, Part 2, September 17, at The Gates, 290 8th Ave (bet 24th and 25th), starting at 10pm.
