Homeboy Sandman – Vote “The Essence” Video Into Rotation [MTV, MTVu, etc.]

We are journalists, and as such, normally will not participate in any voting, contests, or join in any promotions for such, etc., but in this case, Homeboy Sandman, one of our inaugural “5 Reasons Why New York Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck,” has a video for his song “The Essence,” which premiered today on MTVu (Subterranean), and, if voted for enough by the public, can become a part of regular programming.

I feel that this would be a good thing, for many reasons.

“The Essence,” directed by Nicolas Heller, is a 2 Hungry Bros-produced track from Homeboy Sandman’s fantastic album The Good Sun, available through iTunes. While we didn’t review The Good Sun, you will note that many prominent music sites did. Favorably. Personally, I can attest that I rock this LP in my ride, consistently, to the point where my 12-year-old son is now a fan of Homeboy Sandman.

So, if you are here, and have come through BirthplaceMag.com in the past, and are at all aligned with our musical tastes or our mission statement to help reignite and document the New York hip hop scene, I would encourage you to log on to http://freshmen.mtvu.com, and vote for Homeboy Sandman’s “The Essence”. And spread the word to do so thorough your various social media networks. It’s for a good cause.

Now, I feel a bit awkward utilizing the platform I created to urge our readers to do such a thing. Indeed, I have passed up opportunities to do so for other friends and associates in the NYC underground hip hop scene, and will likely pass up such opportunities to do so again. And of course, I have not been compensated or even asked to do this. I simply feel that it would be a great look for a great artist who is a great lyricist and, for many, a great representative of an under-served segment of the great NY rap universe.

So, consider this an op-ed call to action, and were Homeboy Sandman running for an office, this would be an endorsement. You absolutely do not have to follow my suggestion, however, I highly suggest you take to your computer screens, and vote “The Essence” into regular rotation on MTV. Vote repeatedly and often.
