Back in June, we started our series, “5 Reasons Why NY Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck,” and in our first installment, we stated about one entry, “They have been a cornerstone of hip hop in New York City for ten years. Think about that. Very few things (including artists, groups, showcases, organizations, labels, radio stations) last ten years in hip hop. They run every week. Without fail.”
We were speaking of End of the Weak, the weekly open mic showcase that since has expanded with franchises throughout the world, including France, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Uganda, Spain and the UK. This Friday, EODub is celebrating 10 years of hosting hip hop hotness, with an event at Highline Ballroom.
There’s a lot scheduled for the night, and assuming Hurricane Earl spares the city from its full fury (it looks like it will), we can expect to see an onslaught of dope, live hip hop, including a B-Boy demonstration, the 10th season of the MC Challenge and the first ever DJ Challenge, all with special guest judges and contestants. Featured performances so far include Homeboy Sandman (also one of our first “5 Reasons”), Beatboxer Entertainment, with more of the NY-area’s underground hip hop elite to be added, we are certain.
Special guests so far, DMC and DJ Evil Dee. Expect more. And expect plenty of hip hop that doesn’t suck.
