We don’t feel too guilty that we didn’t jump to post the latest from YC The Cynic, one of our personal fave up-and-comers in the NYC hip hop circuit. I mean, we already reviewed his debut mixtape, You’re Welcome, named him one of our very first “5 Reasons Why NY Hip Hop Doesn’t Suck,” and we generally big him up on the regular.
Wouldn’t want to be accused of favoritism or anything, especially since there are many deserving artists we haven’t even gotten to yet.
But, since it wouldn’t take too long, and because the back story is interesting, here is “Fall FWD,” a musical rant against “one of the underground’s favorite darlings,” who YC felt disrespected him and the event in which he was performing, “calling the show #Niggafest2000, and getting at me in the process.”
YC states that while he was vigorously defended by supporters on the spot, and that she “ended up getting put in her place,” the incident, he says, inspired this retort.
Yes, it’s partly a gossipy story, and we’re all for NYC hip hop unity, but when the response to disrespect is delivered in the form of an intelligently crafted response, over a 2 Hungry Bros track, by an on-the-rise young NYC hip hop artist, we can’t help but to document it.
After all, that’s hip hop too.
