One thing that becomes clearer the more time we put into documenting New York area hip hop, is the wealth of artists, DJs and production companies out here grinding, attempting to showcase their talents on the variety of stages that New York City provides on any given week.
Many of the names are the same, many of the artists are associates of each other, some have their little cliques, and some showcases will bring out an assortment of talent from all of these camps. In an attempt to become the top source for all things NY-area hip hop, we try to at least become aware of all of these artists, and events.
So when Syn hit us up about The Hip Hop Shop, the next in a series of showcases, we were intrigued. We hadn’t crossed paths with the batch of talent listed, and, while this sometimes means the artists are new, or unpolished, or in extreme cases, untalented, we always enjoy the opportunity to discover new artists doing their thing.
So we’ll be watching on August 18, as Twizzle the RL & Syncere host the Hip Hop Shop at Karma Lounge, featuring a headline performance by Syn’s 456 Movement (“Ode to NY”). Other performers on the bill include, Bundy, Manny, Crookz Green, Dyce, Ace High Muzik, A.K.A. and the The Freight Train Hobos.
Representatives from area hip hop organizations will be judging some of the performances, including Winter (Winter’s Real Talk Show), Johnny Descartes (Fate Music/Remedy) and Charlie Biggs. DJ Hazel will be on the wheels, and BirthplaceMag.com will be in the house.
So buy us a drink as we discover some NYC hip hop together.
