Jay-Z ‘Decoded’ Book: Memoir Hits Shelves in November

Jay-Z and accomplished journalist dream hampton have collaborated to create Decoded, a book being described as a mix of a “first-person memoir” and discussions regarding his lyrics by Rolling Stone. The book, to be published by Spiegel & Grau, will include interviews with friends and family, and will detail the Brooklyn hip hop icon’s rise to stardom, including a look at his childhood, upbringing and drug-dealing past.

Based on descriptions, Decoded seems to consist largely of the autobiographical work that he and hampton had completed years ago. That project, Jay-Z opted not to release, citing the gravity of personal details that were uncovered and delved into during the intimate interviews as the basis of his reluctance.

Jay-Z is of one of the highest-selling rap artists of our time, and is often acclaimed for his lyrical prowess. Decoded will also contain detailed breakdowns of many Jay-Z’s , as he explains the meaning, and sometimes meanings, behind his lyrics.

It is not clear, as Rolling Stone pointed out, whether or not Decoded has been updated since its completion some time ago, possibly omitting recent developments in Jay-Z’s personal life and career. Nevertheless, with Ms. hampton at the helm, it will undoubtedly provide an exceptional understanding of the inner workings of one of the genre’s greatest artists.

Decoded is scheduled to hit shelves November 16, 2010.
