Few companies personify New York hip hop better than Duck Down Records, who for 15 years have delivered to our eardrums music that personifies the gritty, lyrical, underground boom-bap style that became defined as NY hip hop. From groups and artists many would call classic, i.e., Black Moon, Boot Camp Clik and Smif-N-Wessun to current fan favorite Sean Price, underground grinders like Skyzoo, an acclaimed collaborative effort between KRS One and Buckshot and highly anticipated upcoming releases from the likes of Pharoahe Monch, few can deny the collective input Duck Down has had, and continues to have, on the hip hop landscape over the years, particularly in New York City.
Having survived the downfall of the independent hip hop label, Duck Down is celebrating its 15-year history with an anniversary party June 13 at the B.B. King Blues Club and Grill, boasting a powerhouse lineup of these, and other hip hop heavyweights. Aside from the aforementioned Pharoahe Monch, Boot Camp Clik, Sean Price, Buckshot, Smif-N-Wessun and Skyzoo, expect to see Kidz in the Hall, Marco Polo and Torae, Ruste Juxx, DJ Evil Dee on the wheels throughout the night, and the inevitable “special guests” that are likely to roll through to pay homage to the Duck Down legacy.
The event is hosted by satellite radio personality Angela Yee and artist/hostess Amanda Diva, and will be preceded by the Hot 97 MC Battle finals, from 6pm to 8pm.
