A while back, Jim Jones announced that he would be teaching classes in partnership with the New York City Public School System. While some may have giggled at the thought, the program is in fact a well-received project that deserves some shine. Thankfully, besides us, a mainstream publication has shed a little light on a bit of positivity in the hip hop world (for a change), as the NY Daily News just wrote up the program, including a video clip further explaining the program, and Jones’ involvement.
Jones is fulfilling a a six-week teaching engagement at the Grand Street Campus High School in Bushwick, Brooklyn, while other music notables are also donating some time to school children on all levels, from elementary, middle school and high school, including Ryan Leslie, Doug E. Fresh, Grandmaster Caz, and Easy A.D., of Cold Crush Brothers fame.
The Daily News quotes Jones as saying, “This is a small part of one of my many big dreams that I have,” stating that the NY rapper hopes to open an after-school center for those interested in learning about the music industry.
