Nicki Minaj, who recently made hip hop headlines by joining, and then almost immediately withdrawing, from Rihanna’s “Last Girl On Earth” concert tour, has apparently fired her manager, Debbie Antney. Antney is also the mother and manager of rapper Waka Flocka.
The news came over the weekend, a few days as the Young Money songstress announced via Twitter her withdrawal from Rihanna’s 25-stop tour, also scheduled to include hip pop artist Ke$ha (Tik Tok, Right Round). According to reports, the firing was somewhat unexpected and arrived in the form of a cease and desist order.
Minaj has faced some negative critical response to her debut single “Massive Attack“, and also recently taking to Ustream/YouTube to somewhat aimlessly address haters, one in particular, a female Baltimore rapper named Keys. The burgeoning beef is continuing with a Keys diss that is not circulating the internet.
Details surrounding Minaj’s dismissal of Antney, initially reported by AllHipHop.com, have yet to fully materialize, but we’ll be keeping an eye on the development. Despite our initial sleeping on Minaj, we became closet fans that now happily proclaim our approval for her skill and style, but remain concerned that outrageousness and distraction are usurping the opportunity she has to be taken seriously.
