We’ve been on something of an events kick lately, so we are continuing by informing you of the upcoming Amanda Diva and Friends event at the Highline Ballroom, on Wednesday April 21, 2010.
For the record, Amanda Diva has long been on our radar, and I personally look forward to the day I will get to meet her and feature her for our site. She is an eclectic, progressive artist with a bubbling personality, energetic and full of life. Girlishly cute, sultry and beautiful all at the same time, the former Nickelodeon actress is only known in some circles, despite brushes with national fame and high profile co-signs. In the same vein as we spoke about FinaL OutlaW, Miss Diva also epitomizes some of what BirthplaceMag.com is trying to bring to light; the sometimes unheralded superstar artists of the New York hip hop underground. So when I see Amanda Diva’s name, I stop in my tracks, knowing she is one of those artists.
As was the case when I stumbled upon Miss Diva hosting the Hip Hop Unplugged Showcase at Crash Mansion back in March. Unfortunately, the event was being recorded, and while Amanda was professional with actor-like skill in repeatedly restarting scenes, it was an orchestrated event, and she was only hosting. I am anxious to witness the phenom perform, when not handcuffed by a script.
That being said, the at-least-a-quadruple-threat songstress/spitstress will be the spotlighted artist at Amanda Diva and Friends, presented by Jill Newman Productions. The event will feature opening act Apollo Heights, with special invited guests, among others, Black Thought, Styles P, and Curren$y, and hosted by the lovely and talented Angela Yee.
It all goes down at the Highline Ballroom, located at 431 W. 16th street. Doors open at 7pm, showtime is 9pm, and tickets are on sale now.
