Sometimes, the behind-the-scenes grind of building BirthplaceMag.com to become the authoritative source for New York-area hip hop gets very chore-like. Site programming, emails to respond to, collecting incoming music, contacting writers, making deals for advertising… All necessary, but tedious.
The payoff, however, is finding good music. Or interesting stories. Or stumbling upon someone or something that, even though we don’t have a lot of time to delve into, we take note of, for future reference.
Sha Stimuli, is not one of those. We have covered him in the past, and have long been aware of his work and hustle. But we were pleasantly surprised by the latest drop from his Overtime project, a re-visitation of beats from his album, My Soul To Keep. On “Hang On (Remix)”, we are treated to a young MC, The Astronomical Kid. He’s 13, and got flow.
I’m not afraid to admit that I hadn’t heard of The Astronomical Kid before. We’ll definitely be checking him out in the future. But in the meantime, if you have been living under the same rocks as us, get to know him alongside Sha Stimuli.
