OK Birthplaceians. This is the video for “Get Lite”, by The Beatards. Now, you know we like to give a small backstory when we have one, so here’s how we got to this one.
Today, BirthplaceMag.com Editor-In-Chief, Creator, Brilliant Mastermind, Grand Pooba, etc., Manny Faces, visited the Hip Hop Subway Series. Much more on that later. Needless to say, we met up with an eclectic and fascinating group of dedicated New York hip hoppers that prove that hip hop in the Big Apple is alive and well.
That being said, the aforementioned Manny Faces, was up late, editing a full length feature article that will be dropping within a day or two, and before shutting down, came across a link from Grey Matter, affiliated with the also aforementioned Hip Hop Subway Series. “ILLEST VIDEO YOU NEED TO SEE NOW!!!….” he stated, e-emphatically. Thinking it might be something from the day’s events, we clicked.
It wasn’t. Which is fine, we’re sure it’s coming, and we have some footage ourselves (stay tuned for a follow-up article)… What it was was, this video, from The Beatards. We had previously known the name of this group, but don’t think we had the chance to investigate them yet. So, we gave the video a spin.
It’s fun shit. A little eclectic, definitely not Kay Slay Drama Hour stuff, but we can easily imagine these cats putting on a hell of a performance. So, in our endless effort to try and document all New York-area hip hop, we figured we’d end the night on this note.
Plus, who can resist 8-foot tall rabbits, flying cats, skateboard tricks and Scoob and Scrap Lover-type dance steps? I know I can’t.
