Part of our mission to cover NY area hip hop includes the businesses and organizations that either partake in, or are influenced by hip hop music and culture. What might normally go unnoticed by the larger, national-focused hip-hop sites is important to us, especially if it is a NY-area establishment. Soon, we’ll happily accept advertising on our site from such organizations, but we will always be journalistically fair and highlight when local entrepreneurs are doing hip hop related things.
As is the case with Richmond Hood Company (RHC), an “urban action sports” store in Staten Island. RHC is starting a series of first-Friday “exhibit installments,” beginning this Friday, February 5, 2010. The series, entitled “Exhibit ‘A'” is designed to “provide local artists non-traditional space to express creativity” and come together to vibe on issues relevant to the community of local talent.
The first installment will feature Demitris Felder and Emiliana Castillo, two visual artists from the Bronx.
At Birthplace Magazine, we believe that hip hop transcends music, and influences culture and art in many ways. While we realize that these kinds of endeavors are as much a plan to bring potential shoppers into a store as they are to provide a platform for artistry, we still respect RHC for providing such a forum. Any positivity that grows from a hip hop foundation should be supported.
If you’re in the area, check out “Exhibit ‘A'”.
