We caught wind of Outasight a while back, around the time that his “Good Evening” was making the rounds and thought his sing-songy sound was pretty fresh, sorta reminiscent of a NYish Cee-lo. To us, his music has always been very listenable, he’s happily willing to take a risk, and never really blows it. This latest drop is produced by 6th Sense, who we met with earlier this year at a show at Southpaw, performing with Wildabeast (which I learned that night is sorta like “Wil. Da Beast.” Get it?). Anyway, we have always thought very highly of Outasight’s talent, and so a new joint is welcomed.
(On a side note, all of these folks are a part of a very creative and bubbling NYC underground movement that has a lot to do with why Birthplace is doing what we are doing. Definitely more on all of these artists soon)
In the meantime, to satisfy those thirsty for Outasight’s forthcoming release, like us, this collab has magically appeared. To us, “Catch Me If You Can” sounds like a lovely marriage of Jay-Z’s “Takeover” and the 1969 Newport Jazz Festival. If you can dig that, you will dig this.
